MITO® Materials adds LIGRA to product options

MITO® Material Solutions’ newest product, LIGRA^TM, has been designed to seamlessly mix into standard manufacturing methods for ease of adoption. Short for “liquefied graphene” LIGRA is an aqueous graphene-based solution with functionalized surface chemistry on top of the graphene that allows it to be suspended into water  – which provides superior dispersion and the ability to integrate into different chemistries that are more water-based, such as coatings, emulsions, and sizing chemistries.

A recent application of LIGRA was a partnered product designed with Vartega, Inc., FenixFiber+. This revolutionary new carbon fibre product enhanced with LIGRA received an ACE (Award for Composites Excellence) Award at CAMX 2023, winning the award for the category “Infinite Possibility for Market Growth”.

The unique water-solubility of MITO’s graphene technology platform allows LIGRA to be readily dispersed in hydrophilic matrices. LIGRA improves the functionalization and strengthens the Z-axis dimension in parts. Third party testing showed a 50% improvement in elongation and a 37% improvement in impact toughness on the FenixFiber+ carbon fibre sized with LIGRA.
